This blog is dedicated to Monsieur Philippe I, the duke of Orléans (21 September 1640 - 9 June 1701). He was the son of Louis XIII and Anne of Austria, the younger brother of Louis XIV, and the father of Philippe II who became regent to Louis XV. At court he was known simply as "Monsieur," the traditional title for the younger brother of the king. He was born the duc d'Anjou and inherited the title of the duc d'Orléans from his uncle Gaston a year after his death, receiving the title officially on 10 May, 1661. "Through the children of his two marriages, Philippe became an ancestor of most modern-day Roman Catholic royalty, giving him the nickname of 'the grandfather of Europe.'" I post anything related to Philippe d'Orléans, as well as his family and lovers. More info here.
